Cristiano Ronaldo Considers Al-Nassr Exit Amid PIF Frustrations

Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo could be set for another dramatic twist in his glittering career, with reports emerging that the Portuguese superstar is considering leaving Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr at the end of the season.

According to Portuguese outlet Record, the 40-year-old forward is unhappy with how Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is handling Al-Nassr’s finances, particularly when compared to rival clubs within the league.

Ronaldo, the highest-paid footballer in history on a staggering £488,000-per-day contract, is said to have begun a strike earlier this week as tensions behind the scenes escalate.

PIF Treatment Sparks Ronaldo’s Discontent

The PIF owns a 75 per cent stake in four Saudi Pro League clubs, namely Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli and has been central to the league’s rapid rise, luring global superstars with lucrative deals.

However, Ronaldo reportedly believes Al-Nassr have not been treated fairly in the transfer market.

His frustrations have been amplified by Al-Hilal’s latest high-profile move, completing the signing of his former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad earlier this week.

Al-Hilal currently sit one point clear of Al-Nassr at the top end of the Saudi Pro League table, further fueling Ronaldo’s belief that his club has been left at a competitive disadvantage.

Ronaldo’s Release Clause and Contract Situation

The report claims Ronaldo has a £43 million (€50m) release clause written into his contract, which still has 18 months remaining after he signed a two-year deal last summer.

While triggering the clause would be a significant financial commitment, uncertainty remains over whether any club would take that step.

Despite his age, Ronaldo continues to deliver on the pitch and remains one of football’s most marketable figures.

Should he leave Al-Nassr, a return to Europe or a move to Major League Soccer in the United States are believed to be the most realistic options.
