Oketch Salah has stirred political debate after openly declaring that he has sufficient financial muscle to counter any vote-buying schemes ahead of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leadership contest.
Speaking to residents in Kericho, Salah urged them to support Oburu Odinga’s bid for the ODM Party Leader position, insisting that the contest should be decided on leadership qualities and ideology rather than money.
“Mimi niko na pesa za kutosha za kuweka Oburu Odinga akuwe party leader baada ya NDC,” Salah said, translating to: “I have enough money to ensure Oburu Odinga becomes party leader after the NDC.”
‘No One Will Buy Our Votes’
Salah accused unnamed political players of attempting to use money to influence the upcoming party process, but maintained that such tactics would fail in Kericho and beyond.
He boldly claimed he could match and neutralize any financial inducements aimed at swaying delegates or voters, urging residents not to sell their political voice.
According to Salah, Oburu Odinga represents continuity, experience, and ideological clarity within ODM, qualities he believes are crucial as the party prepares for a post-NDC political realignment.
ODM Leadership Battle Heats Up
The remarks come amid growing jostling within ODM as leaders position themselves for influence ahead of the party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC).
The contest for party leadership is increasingly shaping up as a test of both grassroots support and internal power dynamics.
As ODM inches closer to its NDC, the Oburu Odinga endorsement and Salah’s unapologetic financial declaration is likely to intensify debate within the party ranks.
