Sifuna Weighs In on Ruto–Kalonzo Road Spat

Sifuna

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has entered the debate sparked by President William Ruto’s remarks on an untarmacked road leading to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s home, criticising what he termed as self-serving leadership.

The controversy erupted after President Ruto claimed Kalonzo had been in leadership for over 50 years with little to show for it, pointing to the poor state of infrastructure around the opposition leader’s residence as evidence.

“Leadership Is Not About Starting With Yourself” – Sifuna

Reacting to the exchange, Sifuna took to X (formerly Twitter) to rebuke the notion that political power should be used to prioritise personal or local interests over national needs.

“Exactly the mentality that will get us to Singapore. Ati when you get power you start with yourself,” Sifuna wrote.

While acknowledging the natural desire for leaders to want development in their home areas, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General stressed that such projects should not override broader national priorities.

Sifuna Calls for Accountability Ahead of 2027

Sifuna used the moment to issue a broader political warning, urging Kenyans to reject leaders he accused of conflating personal benefit with effective leadership.

“In 2027 get rid of these dealers who think starting with themselves is the measure of leadership,” he concluded.

His remarks add to the growing political discourse around development priorities as Kenya edges closer to the next general election.
