Tourism Takes Centre Stage as Kenya Prepares for the 62nd Jamhuri Day Celebrations

The government has declared that the 62nd Jamhuri day celebrations will revolve around tourism, wildlife, and the fast-rising Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions sector, known widely as MICE. It is a deliberate turn toward a sector that has long shaped how Kenya sees itself, and how the world sees Kenya.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano described the moment as “an honour,” saying the celebrations would highlight how deeply the industry is woven into Kenya’s identity.

“We welcome you all to our Jamhuri Week 2025 celebrating Kenya’s transformation through Tourism, Wildlife and MICE,” she said in a public statement.

Miano noted that the week is meant to draw people both Kenyans and international visitors into the country’s wide range of landscapes and cultures.

“It will be a great week to explore, experience and celebrate our nation’s beauty, innovation and cultural pride,” she said.

The programme will stretch across the country. Destination showcases, cultural exhibitions, wildlife forums and community-driven tourism events are planned. The government hopes the activities will encourage more Kenyans to travel locally, reviving the familiar rallying call: Tembea Kenya — travel Kenya.

One of the biggest attractions will be an expanded Tourism and MICE Expo. The event is expected to bring together hotel groups, conservation organizations, county tourism boards and global delegates looking at potential investments. Officials say Kenya’s influence in the conference world has grown steadily, turning the country into a preferred host for major gatherings. It is a trend that has brought jobs and opened new doors for economic growth.

The focus on tourism aligns closely with Kenya’s long-term development strategy. By dedicating the entire Jamhuri Week to the sector, the government hopes to show that the industry’s future lies not only in its natural wonders but also in new ideas, from sustainable travel to modern conference facilities.

This year’s Jamhuri day celebrations will be held at the Nyayo stadium, Nairobi. The celebration will serve both as celebration and reminder that the country’s wilderness, culture and creativity need to be protected and promoted.
