Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has celebrated a deeply emotional milestone as his adopted son, Gift Osinya, graduated from Scott Christian University, marking a triumphant chapter in a story defined by tragedy, resilience.
Sonko shared a powerful tribute on X, reflecting on the remarkable journey of Gift and his younger brother, Satrine, who survived a brutal Al-Shabaab attack in March 2014.
“See God!! The God of miracles. The God of second chances… Today, Gift Osinya graduates from Scott Christian University — a moment only God could write,” Sonko wrote.
The two brothers were thrust into the national spotlight in 2014 after terrorists stormed a church in Mombasa, killing six worshippers, including their mother.
In the attack, baby Satrine was shot in the head and miraculously survived after undergoing delicate surgery, while a young Gift displayed extraordinary bravery amid chaos and loss.
Sonko would later adopt the two boys, raising them as part of his family.
In his message, Sonko praised God’s grace over the children’s lives, writing, “To survive that storm and stand here today is nothing short of divine. Gift’s journey is living proof that God still performs wonders… Gift, my son — we are proud. This is just the beginning.”
The former governor’s celebration has sparked widespread congratulatory messages online as Kenyans commemorate the boys’ journey from tragedy to triumph.
