The Jubilee Party has appointed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its Deputy Party Leader, signalling an ambitious effort to reassert its place in Kenya’s fast-shifting political landscape.
The announcement came after a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by Party Leader Uhuru Kenyatta, who urged members to rally behind a renewed vision for Jubilee’s future within the opposition alliance.

The party also stated that Dr. Matiang’i will represent the Party within the United Opposition adding that he would be supported by Party Chairperson Mr. Saitoti Torome.
In a move that could reshape the opposition’s internal dynamics, Dr. Matiang’i had also formally applied to be Jubilee’s presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election, a bid the NEC endorsed during the meeting.
The former Cabinet Secretary, known for his reputation as a tough administrator during his time in government, now emerges as one of the key figures around whom the party hopes to rebuild its momentum.

During the meeting, the NEC also approved a nationwide membership drive and mobilisation campaign aimed at reviving the party’s base. The plan includes outreach across counties and a fresh registration push to attract young voters, a demographic seen as crucial in the 2027 race.
Party officials described the strategy as a “decisive step” toward restoring public trust and reaffirming Jubilee’s relevance in national politics.
With Dr. Matiang’i’s return to the political stage and Mr. Kenyatta’s continued influence, Jubilee appears intent on reclaiming a central role in shaping Kenya’s opposition politics even as it faces the challenge of reconnecting with an electorate that has moved on from its former dominance.
