Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) DPP Noordin Haji residence in Nairobi’s Riverside home was broken into on Thursday night, awaking on Friday by unknown assailants.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander James Mugera said the thugs who broke into the DPP’s residence stole electronics and some material stuff like shoes. Refuting claims that some materials connected to the investigations ongoing were targeted at the scene.
“The ODPP, as a Prosecuting Authority, doesn’t collect or store evidence of any nature. Members of the public and media are urged not to politicize this incident,” the statement read.
However, the thieves made away with a TV set, a laptop belonging to one of his sons, and assorted shoes.
The two armed police officers who man the compound said they did not hear it happen.
The incident was discovered by one of the DPP’s sons, who had gone downstairs for morning prayers when he discovered their TV was missing.
He told the police that he then realized his laptop that was in the sitting room was also missing other personal effects.
According to the reports, two house helps and the children were in the house but no one heard anything. DPP Haji was not at home during the raid during the robbery but heard nothing.
The National Police Service has since beefed up security at the residence even as they pursue the robbers.
Following the robbery, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed that the robbery took place. It, however, dismissed reports that the office had also been raided by the robbers.
“The DPP would like to clarify that there was a robbery at his residence, not his office, and investigations are ongoing,” said the statement.
