NAIROBI — Family, friends and political leaders are gathering at Don Bosco Catholic Parish in Upper Hill, Nairobi, for the requiem mass of former Cabinet Minister and Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno, who died earlier this month at the age of 80.
The service has drawn a wide cross-section of mourners, from senior government officials to former colleagues and constituents.
Otieno, who represented Rongo Constituency for several terms, served in key ministries including Labour, Transport, Communications and Public Service. He was also a senior figure in Kenya’s coalition government of 2008, where he oversaw civil service reforms.
The requiem mass is part of a series of memorial events leading to his burial in Migori County later this week.
For many in attendance, the gathering is both a farewell and a reflection on an era in Kenyan politics. As one mourner put it, “His legacy will live on in the institutions he helped shape and the lives he touched.”
