Kenya Editors Guild Appoints Linda Bach as The New CEO

NAIROBI — The Kenya Editors Guild has appointed Linda Bach as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership change at one of the country’s most influential media bodies.

Bach, who takes office on 16 October, steps into the role with what the Guild described as “a wealth of experience and expertise.” She replaces Rosalia Omungo, who has served as CEO for the past eight years.

In line with the Guild’s constitution, Bach will vacate her position as a council member for print. The Executive Council has named Andy Kagwa of Standard Group to take over that seat. Millicent Awuor will also assume a new role as chair of the Programmes Committee, a position Bach previously held.

“We are confident that her leadership will drive the organisation forward,” the Guild said in a statement.

Omungo, the outgoing CEO, was credited with steering the Guild through a period of growth and heightened scrutiny of media freedom. “We sincerely thank Rosalia for her sterling role and wish her all the best in her future endeavours,” the council noted.

Bach steps into the position at a time when Kenya’s media faces financial pressure, political tension, and an evolving digital landscape. Her appointment is expected to set the tone for how the Guild navigates these challenges while defending the independence of newsrooms.
