Police in Los Angeles have identified the decomposed remains found inside a car registered to the singer D4vd as those of a missing California teenager.
The body of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas was discovered on 8 September in the boot of a Tesla that had been impounded at a Hollywood tow yard. Officers were called after workers noticed a strong odour coming from the vehicle, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Rivas, from Lake Elsinore, disappeared in April 2024, when she was just 13. A missing person flyer from that time described her as 5ft 2in tall with long dark hair.
The Tesla, bearing Texas licence plates, was registered to 20-year-old musician David Anthony Burke, known to fans as D4vd. The car had been abandoned in the Hollywood Hills several days earlier before it was towed.
Investigators said the remains were badly decomposed, suggesting the girl had been dead for some time. Law enforcement sources told NBC News that the body was “not intact.” The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reported that the victim was wearing black leggings and a tube top and had a tattoo on her finger that read “Shhh.”
Authorities have not yet determined the cause or timing of her death.
Police said D4vd is cooperating fully with investigators. He was on tour when the discovery was made and later cancelled a scheduled performance in Seattle.
D4vd, who has millions of social media followers, rose to fame with his viral singles Here With Me and Romantic Homicide. He released his debut album earlier this year.
For now, the case raises more questions than answers. Detectives are continuing their investigation into how the missing teenager ended up in the vehicle.
