The family of a murdered man in Rangwe, Homa Bay County, is pleading for justice after his body was discovered dumped by the roadside, badly mutilated and doused with acid.
The victim, identified as Enosh Otieno, was found on 5 October in Kotieno Location, Gem East. His body was first spotted by a motorcycle taxi rider, who then alerted relatives.
“I was devastated when I received the news,” said his mother, Hellen Anyango, describing the shock of losing her son in such violent circumstances.
Police later collected the body and transferred it to Mbeka morgue, where a post-mortem is expected to be carried out.
Two weeks on, however, no arrests have been made. “We want the killers brought to book,” said Otieno’s uncle, Clement Odundo. “The family is living in fear and cannot understand why no progress has been made.”
The death has also left Otieno’s children struggling. His eldest son, Felix, a fourth-year student at Mount Kenya University, said his father’s murder has thrown the family into crisis. “He was our only provider. I don’t know how we will manage without him,” he said.
Local police confirmed that the matter has been referred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for further inquiry. “Investigations are ongoing,” Rangwe police commander Magdalene Chebet told reporters, without giving further details.
The killing has stirred fresh concerns in the community about insecurity and the pace of justice in rural Kenya. For Otieno’s family, answers cannot come soon enough.
