Kenyan R&B star Otile Brown has publicly taken aim at fellow musician Savara Mudigi, accusing him of criticising him in interviews-only to apologise privately later.
In a candid Instagram post shared early Tuesday morning, Otile, born Jacob Obunga, expressed frustration over what he called “two-faced behaviour” in the entertainment industry. His comments came after Savara allegedly made negative remarks about him publicly, then quietly sent a direct message to make amends.
“Now all of a sudden I’m the villain, ah? If you’re dissing, let it be direct and stand on it,” Otile wrote in Swahili-infused English. “Acheni za kucome DM na kuomba msamaha baadaye kama Savara.”
He added that Savara had even sent mutual friends and another young artist—who Otile referred to as “kijana ya bangi na avocado”—to plead on his behalf after an interview aired. Otile did not name the specific interview or detail the content of the criticism.
The two singers, once seen as part of Kenya’s growing wave of Afro-pop and R&B talent, now seem to be at odds over personal and professional disagreements.
While Savara, a member of the award-winning group Sauti Sol, has yet to respond publicly, Otile’s statement has already stirred reactions among fans, many of whom are calling for transparency and reconciliation.
Management Change
In the same post, Otile also took time to address speculation surrounding his management. He revealed he had already appointed a new manager following the departure of his long-time associate, Mumbi Maina.
“To the people reaching out for the manager position… I already got one,” he wrote. “Mtamjua kwa wakati. Thank you, love and respect.”
Mumbi confirmed her resignation in a statement on Monday, describing her decision as one made after “much thought and reflection.”
“Working with Otile has been a journey I’ll always be proud of,” she said, adding that their separation was mutual and rooted in personal growth and peace.
“As with any creative journey, there comes a time when paths naturally shift,” she said. “For the sake of my peace, purpose and professional evolution, I believe this is the right time to take a step back.”
She praised Otile’s trust in her and thanked fans and partners for their support. “This decision has been made with respect and mutual understanding,” she added.
For now, Otile seems focused on setting the record straight—and turning the page, both personally and professionally.
