Kenyans should brace for continued cold mornings and nights across much of the country, as the July cold season reaches its peak. The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast persistent low temperatures and cloudy conditions in the highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the southeastern lowlands, and central Rift Valley. Night temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C in regions surrounding Mt. Kenya, the Central Highlands, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
The Met Department also projects that daytime temperatures will remain high in northeastern and northwestern Kenya, with some areas recording averages above 30°C. Between July 22 and July 28, rainfall is expected in parts of the Highlands on both sides of the Rift Valley. The department noted that this marks a continuation of the typical weather pattern for this time of year.
The month of July is traditionally the coldest in Kenya, and we’re seeing near to above-normal rainfall in some regions, the department stated in its latest forecast.
Kenyans living in cooler areas have been advised to dress warmly, particularly in the mornings and evenings. Farmers in rainfall-prone areas are encouraged to keep an eye on localized forecasts to plan planting and harvesting activities accordingly.
This period marks the height of the June–July–August cold season, which often brings thick fog, drizzle, and extended overcast conditions, especially in Nairobi, Nyeri, Eldoret, and Nakuru.
The Meteorological Department continues to monitor shifting patterns and has pledged to provide regular updates as weather conditions evolve.
