KITALE — Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya officially resumed duties on Monday after completing a 60-day court-imposed ban from office over an active corruption investigation.

The governor had been suspended from his role in May as part of his bail conditions after denying charges tied to irregular payments totaling Ksh3.2 million. The funds in question were allegedly disbursed by the county government to two private firms.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating the transactions. The court had directed Natembeya to stay away from county offices to allow investigators to work without interference.

Returning to the county headquarters in Kitale, Natembeya was received by his staff. In a public message on his official X account, he declared, “No one will shake our resolve to rewrite our story. We are determined to fulfill every campaign pledge and ensure that the people of Trans Nzoia continue to enjoy the benefits that devolution has brought. That is my promise.”

Governor George Natembeya insisted that he will not allow external pressure to derail his leadership. “If I were to give in to fear, I would be failing the very people who entrusted me with leadership,” Natembeya said. “I am fully aware that there are forces working to distract and derail us, but we will not be moved.”

Governor Natembeya called for unity among residents and urged the public to remain focused on building a better county and country.

Natembeya’s return comes as the corruption case against him remains active in court. The EACC has not yet closed its inquiry, and the matter is expected to continue through legal channels.

The governor’s response signals his intention to maintain a strong public presence despite the ongoing investigation. He did not address the specifics of the case in his statement but emphasized his commitment to service delivery.

The court has not imposed any new restrictions on his office duties since the expiry of the initial 60-day order.
