Co-op Bank, Favorites Heading into the Quarter Finals  

After dropping out in the group stage in last years interbank football tournament, Co-op bank have not only defied the odds in this year’s tournament with a near perfect run, but are also title contenders as they head into the quarters against I & M Bank.

Currently second in their table after Equity whom they lost to, 2-1, earlier in the group stage, Co-op Bank has a goal difference of 26 goals and 15 points in six games.

“When you win, you get respect,” said Gideon Omollo the team’s captain who is sidelined with an injury in today’s quarterfinals fixture.

“We dropped out of last years tournament early in the group stage but I think we played really well, unfortunately, we lacked efficiency. Coming into this year’s competition we were always confident. We controlled the matches and we more than deserve to qualify.” Said Peter Mukenga the Teams Manager.

The teams defense solidified by Michael has been core to their flawless run having kept 4 clean sheets including when they beat GT Bank 13 goals to 0.

Their last final group against Standard Chattered Bank which they won 3 goals to 0 cemented their place in today’s quarterfinals which will be played at Lower Kabete at 3pm, having previously beaten Gulf Bank 4 goals to 0, all scored by Shawn Gedeon currently leading the race for the golden boots with 14 goals in 6 matches

Ceazer Awili, the teams talented midfielder has been central for his strategic role in ball recovery and distance coverage, affecting every minute of the lay. Bethwel Komen, the team’s instigator who plays a key role in frustrating the opponents defense has six goals to his name.

“We are in this for the title,” Komen says.
