Matthijs de Ligt, now officially a Manchester United player, has shared a heartfelt message with Bayern Munich supporters after his departure.
Matthijs de Ligt and teammate Noussair Mazraoui joined Manchester United for a combined fee of approximately €70 million.
Bayern’s decision to sell de Ligt was met with surprise, especially given his strong performances in the latter half of the previous season.

Fans expressed their dissatisfaction and attempted to persuade their beloved defender to stay by signing a petition that collected over 70,000 signatures, approximately matching the seating capacity of Bayern’s Allianz Arena.
“The recent petition signed by so many of you has touched my heart. I wish FC Bayern good luck and many more titles, like Bayern has always done.” De Ligt’s post read on Instagram.
The Dutch centre-back expressed his appreciation for the love and support he received during his two years at Bayern.
In an Instagram post, de Ligt wrote, “Dear Bayern fans, I want to thank each and every one of you for all your love and support. I have spent two amazing years playing for this beautiful club. It has been a true honour to have played for a club like Bayern Munich.”
He thanked the fans, players, and staff for making his time at Bayern special. The decision to sell de Ligt surprised many fans, especially after his strong performances in the previous season.
“This is why leaving this club feels bittersweet. I will always remember the love and support I have received from the players, the staff members, and from the fans,” he added.
Now at Manchester United, de Ligt reunites with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag and looks forward to a new chapter in the Premier League after experiencing a rollercoaster two seasons with Bayern Munich.
