It is a drug that is used mostly by men to improve their performance in bed. The board has determined that the drug is made of honey considered to be adulterated.

In a statement signed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr.Fred Siyoi, PPB noted that the drug,  has been circulating in the market. It is popularly known as Asali wa Wazee and its manufacturers are promoting it as sweet drugs that enhances sexual performance.

In addition to that, the manufacturers have also promoted the drug as a 100 per cent natural herbal drug according to PPB. It has been advertised as a drug that is a healthier substitute to viagra.

However, the tests carried out by PPB determined that there was significant adulteration of this product. They noted that it contains high levels of a conventional active pharmaceutical ingredient known as Sildenafil.

Sildenafil is some form of medication that treats erectile dysfunction and is the active ingredient in Viagra. The levels in the substitute however, are too high and could pose some serious health risks to the user.

“The PPB informs the public that Sildenafil is classified as a Prescription-Only Medicine and its excessive consumption poses serious safety and health hazards,” the statement read in part.

Dr Siyoi further mentioned that the public is not allowed to access the drug without a prescription. The healthcare providers also cautioned against the distribution and dispensation of the product without a prescription.

“Any person found dealing with or distributing these products will be subjected to legal action. Further, the PPB advises the public against use of health products that have not obtained approval from the PPB,” Dr. Siyoi added.

The public was advised to report any form of suspected substandard and falsified medical products to the Board through their official channels.

Many people have recently opted for the drug in circulation due to its herbal nature.

Belgium’s federal agency for the safety of the food chain recalled the drugs in 2019, after realizing it contained high traces of Sildenafil.
