Last weekend, Radio Africa events hosted the first-ever Nairobi International Jazz Festival at the Bomas of Kenya Auditorium. The event went above and beyond the expectations and what was promised, leaving the eventgoers wanting more.
The main star of the show was South African Jazz artist and songwriter, Jonathan Butler who brought the house down with his electrifying performance. Singing classics like Patapata and new songs from his new album, Ubuntu.
The festival however was not just for dancing and singing along to smooth jazz. It was for a good cause. The Jazz festival partnered with the Twakutukuza Trust for a good cause. With a percentage of money raised from tickets going to the trust.
The Twakutukuza Trust is an organization that caters to cancer patients in Kenya, financially, emotionally, and spiritually. Being that October was Cancer Awareness month, this partnership was well in time.
The founder of Twakutukuza Trust Doris Mayoli officially registered the trust in 2010 after a successful concert that she hosted to raise funds for cancer patients had overwhelming support financially.

Doris was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2005 and unlike some cancer patients, she had family and friends who supported her during the shaky times. 11 months later, she got miraculously cured and wanted to be a glimpse of hope for other patients.
As she stood to speak at the jazz festival just before Jonathan took the stage, she expressed her gratitude to everyone present, reminding them that their tickets were going to a good cause. She also shared a bit of how her story led to the Trust.
The following day, the Twakutukuza Trust held a concert at the Nairobi Chapel Ngong. The concert was also an avenue to raise funds and awareness for cancer patients across the country who need assistance.
Twakutukuza Trust has leveraged the love of music amongst Kenyans to aid cancer patients who cannot afford treatment, and need emotional and spiritual support as well as bringing awareness to the heaviness and severity of cancer.
