Dennis Okari former has narrated how he thought of suicide after their subsequent divorce with Betty Kyallo.
During an interview with Reverend Kathy Kiuna in one of her Daughters of Zion events, the former TV news anchor said that at some point he battled suicidal thoughts.

Okari said the divorce from Betty was so depressing that he thought of taking his own life.
He bravely disclosed that he wrestled with thoughts of self-harm, and said that he once wanted to crash his car and get into a comma.
“I wanted to crash my car on Mombasa Road one night. I remember a voice so clearly telling me why I don’t crash the car, and get into a comma, at least weeks would pass by and by the time I wake up the heat will be over. I looked for a boulder that used to be on the road but that night I didn’t see it.”
He said that the idea of him getting married was a wrong move as his definition to marriage didn’t work.

“For me, the idea of falling in love and getting into marriage was the wrong thing because love is more than emotion. It’s a choice because it is this person that you will have to stay with for the next 30 to 40 years of your life but you have to choose them every day,” he said.
At a point in life, suicide seemed like a solution.

The journalist revealed that being the first-born of the family, his role was to set standards. At that time, he could not face his family out of shame as he could not explain why he was divorcing when everyone looked up to him.
Okari at the time he was angry and raging as everyone was judging him. He says no one gets married to divorce and it partly wasn’t his fault they divorced.
despite Dennis Okari and Betty Kyallo having their firstborn daughter Ivanna, the two still got divorced.
