MP Wamuchomba Exposes Persisting Misogyny in Politics

Githunguri MP, Gathoni Wamuchomba, brings to light the fact that ‘misogyny is still real’ in politics.

Kenyan Politics is still a male-dominated field regardless of the strides being taken. Women are still facing a progressive manner of ‘sexual abuse’ even on ground levels.

Wamuchomba points out that though women representatives were created for gender balance, none was invited to the meeting held in her constituency. The women’s representative position was created in response to affirmative action in government.

She claims that she was not recognized during a meeting held with the President and other male politicians in attendance. In addition to this, she was denied entry to the briefing room. This meeting held in her constituency was on Githunguri Dairy Cooperative Society field Day and expo on Saturday, June 17 2023.

” The male shadow in Kenyan politics is growing thicker! I can’t breathe in my constituency as an Elected woman MP ……not even the Women Rep can appear in an official presidential visit. The President, Deputy President, Majority Leader, and male MPs visited my constituency for a political meeting and I was not allowed to walk with them or take a photo. I was denied even entering the briefing room. Misogyny is real!”

Wamuchomba stated.

Wamuchomba is also a UDA lawmaker who happens to be against the controversial finance bill. She has been opposing it because it is punitive to the Kenyan taxpayers and shouldn’t sail through.
