In the last couple of months, Kenyans have welcomed and congratulated many celebrities on giving birth, most of which are couples who are shacking up and having babies in their early twenties. This while forgoing the risk of potentially becoming a baby mama or a baby daddy in the event things do not work out between the couple. A preference for using a baby as a symbol of commitment rather than getting married.
With the current economy, children are more or less planned for by most, considering the great amount of responsibility caring for a child’s needs. Couples seem to think that having kids will solidify their relationship and force them to work on their issues considering that now another human depends on them.
Recently, the court ruled that come-we-stay is as good as marriage. The fact that two people in a relationship live together can be enough proof of marriage in case a dispute regarding finances or wealth arises.
