China’s president Xi Jinping has vowed to strengthen economic ties with Nigeria stating that Nigeria is significant to both Africa and the world.
The Chinese president said this through his special envoy, Peng Qinghua and vice chairwoman of the standing committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) while they met with President Bola Tinubu at State House, Abuja.
Mr. Qinghua said that there were areas where Nigeria could benefit from China while he commended President Tinubu’s plan to lead Nigeria to a new economic development and prosperity era.

He also noted that Chinese businesses were thriving in Nigeria in the highways, hydropower and free trade zones sectors.
He urged the two countries to exchange ideas and align strategies and that President Tinubu should create a more conducive environment for investment.
President Tinubu replied by saying that Nigeria is open for business and partnerships that are constructive with any country that is ready to partner with it. He added that his administration would create a conducive environment for conducting businesses.
“We will continue to work to promote democracy in the West African sub region. I’m a product of democracy and shall work day and night to advance democracy. We will fight terrorism and all forms of criminality. We can learn from each other but we will remain non-aligned,” he further added.

China has been a major investor in Nigeria and apart from the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and other bilateral lenders, it is an alternative to other sources of development finance.
