Mitrovic was a constant threat in the fixture, but he received a straight red card for shoving the referee in the FA Cup quarter-final against United
Two goals in three minutes saw Manchester United turn the tide in their favor against Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-final fixture played at Old Trafford. Fulham manager Marco Silva, Alexander Mitrovic, and Willian were all sent off in 37 seconds of madness. The manager has however noted his team’s performance ahead of the turnaround.
In the first 70 minutes, Manchester United were second best and Fulham looked more likely to extend their lead than concede. Mitrovic scored from close range five minutes from halftime.
The Red Devils searched for an equalizer as the game moved into the final half-hour. A quick break by United, led by Antony led to Willian handling the ball in Fulham’s goal as he attempted to block Jadon Sancho’s effort on goal.
The referee had to use VAR in the decision and faced a fiery head coach Marco Silva who lost his cool and left the technical area. This led to his dismissal. For handling the ball in the area and blocking a clear goal, Willian was also sent off. Mitrovic received his red card for shoving referee Chris Kavanagh.
Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot and initiated the comeback. Two minutes later, United had the momentum and the numbers, and Marcel Sabitzer scored his first goal for Manchester United to put the Red Devils ahead.
Bruno Fernandes got his brace late in added time as Fulham had already lost the energy to fight back. Bernd Leno could not keep out the United midfield maestro’s powerful shot.

On the other end, David De Gea’s outstanding performance ensured the scoreline remained the same as United searched for an equalizer. Initially, he extended to his left and tipped wide Willian’s curling attempt that appeared to be heading for the left-side corner of his goal immediately before Fulham’s goal. Then, even more impressively, Mitrovic stretched the United number one, after meeting Andreas Pereira’s set piece with a bullet header, who clawed the ball away out of harm’s way.
