Ex-Kenyan professional footballer Boniface Ambani has picked defending champions Tusker, Gor Mahia, and Nzoia Sugar as favorites to win the FKF-PL title this season.
The former top scorer in the FKF- PL 2006 scored 20 goals for Tusker, played for Indian club East Bengal Club in the year 2006, and Tanzanian club Young Africans (YANGA) scoring 18 goals in 22 matches
Over the last two seasons, Tusker have shown character and passion, winning the FKF-PL back-to-back. However, the narrow win last season over Kakamega Homeboyz on goal difference makes them the defending champions this year.
“It will only depend on the consistency of the team and also the depth as of now especially because we have started the second leg of the season which is always very tough.
“The three outright teams that I will term them favorites are Tusker, Nzoia Sugar and Gor Mahia,” said Ambani.

With the FKF-PL action back this Wednesday Tusker’s win against Bandari could see them move up the log to second.
The ‘brewers’ Tusker have 31 points and are in fourth place highlighting how difficult the task is as it sure is a must-win test for them after being defeated in the first leg at Mbaraki Stadium, Mombasa.
“Out of those three teams, Tusker have that experience of closing the gap to go all the way and lift the title as we saw last season and that is enough to guide them.”

Gor Mahia face Nzoia Sugar after a 2-1 loss to Mathare United marking just their second defeat of the season.
K’Ogalo, the 19-time champions travel to Sudi Stadium where Sugar millers will have to continue with the unbeaten run at home this season not forgetting the first leg results at Nyayo National Stadium on November 19, 2022, where Nzoia lost.
“Secondly Gor Mahia have been there (winning the title) for some time and the consistency they have had this season since they picked their form has been splendid,” Ambani said.
One of the biggest challenges Nzoia faces is losing its stars to the competition top clubs such as AFC Leopards when the transfer window opens.
“Nzoia, I’m a bit skeptical with them because of a possibility of losing their dependable players to big teams like they have been doing for a long time.
“And these bigger teams I’m very sure when it comes to beefing up their squads they will definitely raid Nzoia for quality additions.
“If the management won’t put in mechanisms to hold on to their key players by giving them a good package then they will lose on that (title push).”
