A program initiated to support girls in poor neighborhoods in Nairobi, known as ‘Boxgirls’, has been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards.
The Laureus Sports Awards is an annual event that was started in 2000 to honor the greatest and most inspirational sporting triumphs of the year. Voting from more than 1,000 sports media from more than 70 different nations results in the creation of shortlists for seven categories, including Sportswoman, Sportsman, Team, Breakthrough, Comeback, Action, and Sport for Good.
The Awards are all-inclusive and the International Paralympic Committee presents the shortlist for the World Athlete of the Year with a Disability award. The Laureus Sport for Good Award celebrates ‘social programs which have made significant contribution in transforming the lives of children and young people through sport’. Kenya’s ‘Boxgirls’ have been nominated for the Laureus Sport for Good Award.
