Goals by Antony Martial and Fred against Nottingham Forest in the second leg of the semi-final take United to their first final in years, the Carabao Cup Final
The Carabao Cup Final is going to be United’s first domestic final appearance since 2018. Newcastle will be in their first final since 1999, in which they lost to, you guessed right, Manchester United. They lost 2-0 in the FA Cup at Wembley.
United Manager Erik Ten Haag has however urged his players to focus on winning the fixture as an appearance in Wembley will mean nothing if they do not win.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Erik Ten Haag said, “It’s great but you play finals to win. It is not an achievement to come into a final. We want to win them but first we have other things to do. We come back to the Premier League and bury this cup.
“It is good to reach the final but it is not about reaching the final, it is about winning it.
“Now the focus is on the Premier League, in two days it will continue. It has to give the motivation in the first place, we want to bring that cup to the fans.
“But in this moment I’m not looking ahead, we’re focusing on other things, a big week is coming up, we have Crystal Palace and then two games against Leeds and they are going to be great games, derby games that we are looking forward to.”
United have a busy fixture schedule in the Premier League and the Europa League while Newcastle have one game a week and an eight-day gap to the final.
Jadon Sancho was warmly welcomed by the Old Trafford faithful after some time on the sidelines. The 22-year-old forward has not featured since October 2022.
