Former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha is dead after suffering a cardiac arrest.
According to an official statement from the Nairobi Hospital facility, Magoha collapsed at his home earlier on Tuesday, January 24, before being rushed to hospital for treatment.
“It is with great regret that we announce the sudden and untimely demise of Professor George Magoha, EBS, OGW this evening at The Nairobi Hospital.
Professor Magoha collapsed at home and was rushed to Nairobi Hospital, where efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
“Kindly join me in condoling with his family and colleagues,” the statement from The Nairobi Hospital further read.
The one-time outspoken state officer will be remembered for his role in leading Kenya’s education reforms and contribution to the sector.
Professor Magoha became the CS of Education in 2019 and was known to be a no-nonsense and tough-talking person in the education ministry.

His death was confirmed by his wife Dr. Barbara Magoha, who told the Nation media that the professor is no more.
“Yes, it is true. He is no more,” his wife told local media.
Professor Magoha died a few weeks after he was appointed as the lecturer of medical surgery at Maseno University school of medicine.
His last public appearance is when he handed over the authorities and function as the CS of education to the current Cabinet secretary of Education Ezekiel Machogu.
This unfortunate event came after they found out about Professor Magoha’s s brother Alex Nyabera who died in the USA Allen, Texas on December 6, 2022.
His cause of death was not made public and his body was to leave Agha khan hospital Funeral home in Kisumu on January 28, 2023.
Professor Magoha has left behind his son Dr. Michael Augustus Magoha and a wife Dr. Barbara Magoha who is a gynecologist.
The 71-year-old breathed his last at the Nairobi Hospital facility.
