Veteran Catherine Kasavuli is named a legend for her influence and inspiration to many, as she charmed many hearts with her warm and affectionate personality both on and off the screens.
Catherine has been eulogized by Kenyans, the media fraternity, and leaders from the government, including President Ruto, who described her as a cheerful, articulate news anchor who took to the screens with unprecedented flair.
Born in Nairobi West in 1962, where she joined the Voice of Kenya in 1980 as a continuity announcer, after her uncle advised her to apply for that opportunity having noted her talent during bible reading sessions at home.
In 1982, Kasavuli enrolled at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) where she polished her journalistic skills before she transitioned to Television in 1985 at the same company.
In 1990 March Catherine became part of the founding team of Kenya’s first privately owned television network, KTN. Taking to the screens as the first Kenyan female anchor to go on broadcast, shifting from the previous pre-recorded format. She also voiced commercials.

After a successful stint at KTN for 17 years, Kasavuli joined Royal Media Services (RMS) in 2007 as a news anchor and corporate affairs manager.
At RMS, Kasavuli held the position of a corporate affairs manager at the parent company of citizen Tv, she retired in 2015 from the limelight to work behind the scenes.
In 2008, Kasavuli was feted with the Order of the Grand Warrior(OGW) Presidential Award by the now-deceased President Mwai Kibaki.
In 2015, Kasavuli launched an independent media company aptly dubbed Kasavuli Media Group.
In 2021, after a 7-year-old long hiatus, Kasavuli returned to KBC as an anchor for weekend news.
During an interview after her comeback, Kasavuli said ” I wanted to come to KBC to train anchors to hone their skills, but never expected an offer of this magnitude”.
Despite being a public face, the soft-spoken and ever-smiling anchor kept her personal life private.
