Some of the best African music legends have been nominated for the Grammy Awards which will be held on February 5, 2023, in Los Angeles at Crypto.com Arena.
With these nominations, African music Artists are gaining popularity on a global scale resulting in them attracting international audiences and larger fan bases.
Nigerian superstar Burna Boy and Beninese legend Angélique Kidjo, South Africa’s Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode, and Burna Boy are all in the running for Best Global Music Performance, while Nigeria’s ever-trending Tems is nominated for “Wait For U,” featuring Drake and Future.
Best Global Music Album.
Burna boy was nominated for Best Global Music Album, for his latest album “Love Damini,” along with other international music artists like Angélique Kidjo from Cotonou, Benin. Burna boy was also nominated for Best Global Music Performance for the hit track “Last Last.”

Several African artists were also nominated for the best Global music performance this is Eddy Kenzo from Uganda. According to KFM the track ‘Gimme Love’ song featuring American singer Matt B secured him a Grammy nomination, Rocky Dawini for the track Neva Bow Down song featuring Blvk H3ro, Wouter Kellerman Zakes Bantwini & Nocebo Zikode from South Africa for the track Bayethe
Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song.
Tems was nominated for the best melodic Rap category for the Track Wait for you where he featured with Canadian rapper Drake.
Best Song Written for Visual Media
Angélique Kidjo was nominated again for best song written for Visual Media for the track keep rising from the album Woman king.
The award ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday 5, February 2023. Most African artists are under the Global music Performance category, Their nominations were announced during the official nominations ceremony by the Recording Academy on Tuesday 15, November 2022.
They were then congratulated by the Recording Academy on their nominations.
Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo is the first Ugandan artist to be nominated for a Grammy. Many also congratulated Burna Boy and were happy he got nominated for two categories.
“We are so grateful to God almighty for such a great moment in our country. Fellow artists thank you, this is for all of us. Uganda thank you for raising me. East Africa stand up!” Kenzo tweeted following the news of his Grammy nomination.
