President William Ruto has moved to deepen Kenya’s bilateral ties with China after he stated that he will secure better deals from Beijing.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 18 at the State House, Nairobi, President Ruto received the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Dr. Zhou Pingjian who also passed a message of goodwill from Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The leaders agreed on working together in a development partnership while focusing on trade, infrastructure, agriculture, and water.
“Our manifesto gives us a roadmap on areas that we can engage in as we expand partnership of development cooperation,” President Ruto noted.
The president also stated that his leadership is keen on promoting partnership and expanding the relationship between Kenya and China for the mutual benefit of the people.
The meeting came in after Ruto held eight successful meetings with the US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman, in the past month, urging him to offer Washington and Beijing equal opportunities.
During President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure in office, Kenya signed six bilateral trade deals with China, where the two nations resolved to address trade barriers and imbalances.
During the meeting, Kenya decided to export its products to China and improve the economic standard of the people.

Nairobi and China continue to enjoy a cordial relationship, as the Asian Tiger is seen to be flattery to win Africa through partnerships.
China has financed several mega infrastructural projects in Kenya, including the Standard Gauge Railway(SGR).
Presently, the terms of Beijing’s loan deals with developing countries are secretive and involve borrowing nations to prioritize repayment to Chinese state-owned banks ahead of other creditors.
President Ruto while campaigning for the presidency, before the August General election, Ruto made a promise to review Kenya’s relationship with China, accusing the Asian nation of burdening Kenya with credit facilities.
However, in a presumably tactic move to win China, the president is keen on deepening the ties and ironing out sticky issues.
