A two-year-old boy whose head was lodged with a fork jembe died while undergoing surgery at Kenyatta referral hospital.
The boy passed away on Tuesday night under the care of medics, according to information from his mother.
The boy was taken to Thika Level V Hospital for emergency care prior to being transferred to KNH.
The boy’s condition initially caused public concern after his mother complained about a service delay at Kenyatta Hospital.

The KNH issued a statement, however, explaining that the delay was intended to allow for clotting due to the boy’s serious condition.
“Our attention has been drawn to the story circulating online regarding a child admitted at KNH with a fork lodged in his skull,” read a statement by KNH Communication Department.
“The patient had lost a lot of blood and as a result, the clotting process was not occurring as expected, thereby, delaying the surgical procedure as this would have been dangerous to the patient. The patient has since been stabilized and is currently undergoing a delicate operation in KNH theatres,” said the hospital earlier on Tuesday.
According to reports, the two-year-old and his siblings walked outside to play, and some of the other kids were carrying a fork jembe that they had seen being stored inside the house.
One of the kids purportedly whacked the two-year-old with the fork jembe while they were playing, and it became stuck in his head.
