KDF rescue 2018 flood victims

The 2018 flood survivor in Kilifi County, Kahindi Kipini alias Kozi Mamba, died at the age of 102 amid battling a protracted illness, a source close to his family reported to Switch Media.

Kipini was reported dead on Monday, October 3, in the evening hour at Malindi Sub-County hospital.

The father of three wives, with 21 children, 69 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, was among those rescued by Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) after the Sabaki River burst its banks, displacing over 1000 people.

During the 2018 flood, locals were evacuated when torrential rains forced the river to overflow.

“The Rapid Deployment Squadron of the Kenya Air Force and Divers from the Kenya Navy will continue operations on a task that began yesterday (Thursday),” KDF Spokesman David Obonyo said.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, Colonel Obonyo said the search and rescue operation was to continue taking place in Bate, Kwa Mjidu, Kwa Samuel Charo, John Ngumbao, and Karimani Dagamra.

According to Kenya Red Cross, nearly 100,000 Kenyans were rendered homeless following floods that wreaked havoc across the country.

Apart from Kilifi County, other Counties that fall, victim to the 2018 flood, include Tana River (116,658), Garissa (7,250) Kisumu (6,200), Mandera (4,067), Wajir (3,105), and Turkana (2,125).
