According to research made by the Domestic Abuse Shelter INC in the US, approximately 4000 women die per year due to domestic violence, while 75% are killed while trying to escape or after the relationship or marriage has come to an end.

As for Idah, she was extremely lucky for having to flee out of her marriage before things worsened.

The ex-actress opening up nine years later was a reflection of any victim trying to protect their partner, marriage, family, or image. As for Alisha, she was trying to protect all since she was a public figure.

When to ask for help

In most abusive cases, victims usually seek help once it is too late or once there can be little or no help offered when instead the question should be who to ask for help rather than when to ask for it.

In Alisha’s case, after things with her ex-husband got out of hand and she needed help from someone she turned to her pastor who she trusted for counseling.  The visit was unlike what she expected.

The pastor informed her that if she provoked her husband, he had all the right to hit her.

To this day, Alisha is yet to heal from the ordeal and hopes to have the heart to forgive the pastor someday.

Idah’s advice to couples planning to get married at a young age is to be patient and get to know their partners well instead of rushing things.

Rushing into relationships tends to be the most common mistake in broken marriages or relationships that do not work.
