Activist Boniface has referred to Azimio la Umoja flagbearer Raila Odinga, and his deputy Martha Karua as heroes of the second liberation saying he believes in their leadership, as they prepare to head to the Supreme Court to challenge William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua’s Election victory.
Boniface Mwangi expressed his support for Azimio La Umoja Presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua despite not being emerging as winners of the August 9 Election.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the prudent activist said his belief in the leadership qualities that Odinga and Karua are offering is unquestionable, declaring that his stand remained the same despite the outcome of the Election.
“I believe in the leadership of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga and Hon. Martha Karua. In this election, I exercised my Constitutional rights, chose a political side, and I gave It my all. I believe in the vision of these two peerless patriots and human rights defenders,” read the statement in part.
Mwangi argues that both Raila and Martha have been on the frontline of the Second liberation of Kenya, citing that he has learned a few tips from them which he believes will reflect in their line of work.
“This opportunity of a lifetime saw me closely interact with the heroes of our second liberation. I saw them proudly wear the scars that are now the immortal emblems of the freedom that we enjoy today. They reminded me to never relent in the fight for a Just country. The lessons I learned will forever remain with me,” he said.
Mwangi also thanked Kenyans who listened to him and backed Raila Odinga and Karua at the polls and those who aided their bid financially insisting that their support is unforgettable and highly regarded.
“For several months, I assumed a front-row seat in their campaign, seeking to propel them to the presidency. I want to sincerely thank everyone who supported our campaign. I experienced your raw passion for patriotism and abiding desire for a better country. Thank you to those who answered my calls, or responded to my posts online. To those who gave their time and money to this campaign, we see you and appreciate you,” he said.
The delayed announcement of the presidential polls by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) aroused anxiety among Kenyans. Mwangi says he was impressed by how Kenyans chose to keep the peace rather than decide on protesting the presidential election results.
“The outcome of the presidential vote is headed to court but, as we wait for that process, we should congratulate ourselves for remaining calm and peaceful. We did well as Kenyans,” he said.
He also urged Kenyans to ensure the newly-elected statesmen take accountability once they assume office, stressing that it is their civic duty to make sure leaders do not abuse the office.

“They must do the job they were elected for. The price of liberty is eternal vigilance. I shall continue being the people’s watchman, the unelected, not appointed, and unpaid position you entrusted me with. an eternal optimist and the struggle for a more equal Kenya continues,” said Mwangi.
