Kenyans have been urged to be patient and remain calm as the country continues to receive announcements of the 2022 elections results from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Under the umbrella of the Mkenya Daima initiative, stakeholders have expressed optimism about business rebounding, as the country strives to recover from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, drought and challenges such as the ongoing war in Ukraine and rising global inflation leading to a high cost of living.
“Political stability is paramount in ensuring an enabling, safe, and thriving socio-economic environment for a prosperous Kenya. It is therefore the responsibility of all citizens to stand up for the good of our nation, for us to achieve the aspirations of a better future and a country with good governance, public accountability, and efficient leadership. “says Dr Vimal Shah, Chair – Mkenya Daima Steering Committee.
The latest CEOs’ Business Confidence Index survey by KEPSA and TIFA Research, indicated an unprecedented 61 index points, showing that most business executives expect improved and stable economic conditions across all industries after the elections. Our collective responsibility, therefore, is to ensure we achieve this on our way to growth and recovery by upholding peace as we await the declaration of the Presidential results by the IEBC, which has committed to delivering free, fair, and credible elections.
Towards the August 9th general elections, the Mkenya Daima initiative engaged with all elections management bodies and stakeholders including the IEBC, the Judiciary, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), and the National Police Service.
“All these bodies expressed confidence in handling any electoral disputes and ensuring business continuity and a smooth leadership transition. In this regard, we urge any aggrieved parties to follow due process and resolve any matters arising peacefully and within the premise of the law.” Dr Vimal comments.
Despite some challenges that have been documented and acknowledged by IEBC around voting and the ongoing tallying exercise.
Dr Vimal added, “We recognise that Kenya’s democracy is indeed growing and maturing, as exhibited in the peaceful and increasingly transparent conduct of this year’s elections.”
