President William Ruto has sanctioned a new round of nominations and redeployments within Kenya’s Foreign Service, affecting four key international missions.
The changes, communicated through a press release from the Executive Office of the President under Notification of Presidential Action No. VIII of 2026, are part of a routine diplomatic transition aimed at strengthening Kenya’s global presence.
New Appointments to Key Missions
In the latest reshuffle, several seasoned diplomats and officials have been nominated to represent Kenya in strategic global capitals.
Mr. Humphrey Wattanga has been nominated as High Commissioner to Pretoria, South Africa, while Dr. Julius Murori Mbijiwe has been appointed Ambassador to the Vatican, also known as the Holy See.
At the same time, Ambassador Irene Maswan has been redeployed as Deputy Ambassador to London in the United Kingdom.
Ambassador Judy Muthoni Njau has been nominated to serve as Deputy Ambassador in Brussels, representing Kenya to Belgium and the European Union.
According to the statement issued by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, the nominations are part of a broader strategy to enhance Kenya’s diplomatic reach and influence globally.
The changes reflect the regular cycle of succession within Kenya’s foreign missions.
Parliamentary Approval Required
In line with constitutional requirements, the nominations have been forwarded to the National Assembly of Kenya for vetting and approval.
Only after parliamentary approval will the nominees formally assume their respective diplomatic roles.
