Nairobi’s political temperatures are already rising ahead of the 2027 General Election, with new survey results indicating early frontrunners in the city’s highly anticipated Senate and gubernatorial races.
According to a poll reported by The Star, Edwin Sifuna has taken a commanding lead in the race for the Nairobi Senator seat, enjoying 47.5 percent support among voters.
The survey places the outspoken lawmaker well ahead of potential competitors, reinforcing his growing political influence in the capital.
Babu Owino Emerges Front-Runner for Nairobi Governor
In the race for the city’s top executive seat, Babu Owino has emerged as the early favourite for the Governor of Nairobi County position, commanding 43 percent voter support.
The Embakasi East MP, known for his energetic political style and strong youth following, appears to have gained significant traction among Nairobi voters as early discussions around the 2027 election intensify.
Sakaja Faces Early Challenge
Meanwhile, incumbent Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja appears to be struggling to keep pace in the early polling numbers.
The survey places Sakaja at 17.4 percent support, a figure that suggests the governor may face a tough re-election battle if current voter sentiments persist.
ODM Heavyweights Flex Political Muscle
Both Sifuna and Owino are embattled prominent figures within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), one of Kenya’s largest political parties.
Their strong showing in the poll highlights their continued influence despite the frictions in ODM and suggests that formerly Raila Odinga-led party could play a decisive role in shaping the city’s leadership in 2027.
With Sifuna leading the Senate race and Owino emerging as the early favourite for the governor’s seat, Nairobi’s political landscape could be heading toward a dramatic and highly charged contest.
