Streaming platform Showmax will be discontinued in the near future after its parent company MultiChoice Group announced a major strategic shift aimed at strengthening its digital services and long-term sustainability.
In a customer notice dated March 5, 2026, the company informed subscribers that the decision followed a comprehensive review of its streaming operations amid an increasingly competitive global entertainment landscape.
No Immediate Disruption for Subscribers
According to the statement, current users of Showmax will continue to enjoy uninterrupted service for now, with the company assuring customers that no immediate action is required.
“Importantly, at the moment there will be no interruption to your current service. You can continue streaming as usual, and no action is required from you at this time,” the statement read.
The company acknowledged that the announcement may raise questions among its subscriber base but assured users that it will provide clear communication well in advance before the service is formally discontinued.
MultiChoice said it will share detailed timelines and any required steps for subscribers once the transition plan is finalized.
Despite the planned shutdown of Showmax, MultiChoice reiterated that streaming remains a core part of its long-term digital strategy.
Showmax has been a key player in Africa’s streaming space, offering a mix of local and international films, series, and live sports content.
Further details regarding the future of the platform and the timeline for its discontinuation are expected to be announced in the coming months.
