Rigathi Gachagua Explains Why He Will Not Attend Burial of Deceased MP Johanna Ng’eno

Gachagua

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed why he will not attend the burial of deceased lawmaker Johanna Ng’eno, delivering an emotional tribute while criticizing leaders he claims mistreated the late politician during his lifetime.

In a heartfelt message mourning the former Emurua Dikirr Constituency Member of Parliament, Gachagua described Ng’eno as a courageous and selfless leader who tirelessly defended the interests of the Kipsigis community.

Tribute to a Political Ally

Gachagua said the death of Ng’eno was a painful loss not only to his family but also to the people of Kenya and the Kipsigis community.

He described the late politician as a close friend, confidant, and political ally who never hesitated to speak boldly on behalf of his people.

According to Gachagua, Ng’eno inspired him to openly defend the interests of one’s community without shame.

He praised the late leader’s determination in championing the concerns of the Kipsigis people, whom he said had endured decades of marginalization despite living in one of the country’s most agriculturally productive regions.

The former deputy president said the community had long struggled with poor infrastructure and lack of essential services such as roads, electricity, and water despite their contribution to the nation’s economy.

Claims of Political Persecution

In his tribute, Gachagua alleged that Ng’eno faced humiliation and isolation for standing firmly with his community. He claimed the deceased legislator was sometimes denied access to State House Nairobi by influential political figures.

Gachagua said he had on several occasions intervened to shield Ng’eno from further humiliation, describing a political environment where “power brokers, strongmen, and pretenders to the throne” attempted to sideline the outspoken leader.

Despite expressing deep sorrow over Ng’eno’s passing, Gachagua stated that he would not attend the burial ceremony. He said his principles would not allow him to sit alongside leaders he believes persecuted the late politician during his lifetime.

The former deputy president accused some of those now mourning Ng’eno of hypocrisy, claiming they had previously targeted and undermined him.

“I have seen your tormentors who hunted you like an antelope shedding crocodile tears and shamelessly pretending to mourn your death,” he said.

Message to the Family and Community

Gachagua extended his condolences to Ng’eno’s young family and the residents of Emurua Dikirr, urging them to remain strong during the difficult period.

The former deputy president concluded his tribute by honoring Ng’eno as a hero of his time, praying for his peaceful rest and expressing hope that another courageous leader would emerge to champion the community’s interests.
