Israel has accused Iran of deploying illegal cluster munitions in its latest missile attacks, claiming the strikes deliberately targeted civilian areas and caused significant harm to children.
Israeli officials allege that the Iranian military launched ballistic missiles equipped with cluster munitions, widely criticized under international humanitarian law for their indiscriminate impact.
These weapons disperse multiple smaller explosives over a wide area, increasing the risk to civilians, particularly in populated regions.
Children Among Victims as Casualties Rise
Israeli authorities report that at least 18 children and infants have been wounded in the attacks.
Among the victims, a five-year-old girl remains in critical condition, while a 10-year-old and a 12-year-old sustained severe injuries.
Tragically, three siblings aged 13, 15, and 16 were killed in the strikes, highlighting what Israel describes as a deliberate targeting of vulnerable populations.
Calls for Global Condemnation and Accountability
Israel has formally called on UNICEF to issue a clear and immediate condemnation of the attacks, emphasizing the organization’s mandate to protect children’s rights and welfare globally.
In its appeal, Israel urged the international community to recognize what it termed as “severe violations” and to hold Iran accountable for actions that allegedly breach international law.
The Israeli government insists that a strong global response is necessary to deter further attacks and to safeguard children caught in conflict zones.
The accusations come amid rising tensions in the Middle East, with fears that continued missile exchanges could escalate into a broader regional conflict.
