The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially announced that by-elections will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, to fill three vacant elective positions across the country.
In a public notice, the commission confirmed that voters in Emurua Dikirr Constituency will elect a new Member of the National Assembly following the death of area MP Johanna Ngeno.
The legislator died on February 28, 2026, in a helicopter crash, creating a vacancy in the parliamentary seat.
The electoral body also announced two county assembly by-elections to fill positions left vacant by the deaths of sitting MCAs.
Residents of Porro Ward will vote for a new Member of County Assembly following the passing of Patrick Lerte. Meanwhile, voters in Endo Ward will elect a new MCA after the death of Jeremiah Biwott.
The IEBC said the by-elections will be conducted in accordance with Kenya’s electoral laws and urged eligible voters in the affected areas to participate in the democratic process.
According to the commission, the upcoming polls will ensure that the affected electoral areas regain full representation both in Parliament and the respective county assemblies.
The electoral body has also called on the public to rely on official communication channels for accurate information and to avoid spreading misinformation ahead of the exercise.
Further details regarding the electoral process, including nomination timelines and campaign guidelines, are expected to be communicated by the commission in the coming weeks.
