Fabian Hurzeler launched a stinging criticism of Arsenal F.C. following Brighton & Hove Albion’s 1-0 defeat at the Amex Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Brighton manager suggested that only one side attempted to play attractive football during the match, taking aim at Arsenal’s approach despite the visitors securing all three points.
“There was only one team who tried to play football today,” Hurzeler said after the final whistle.
“I will never be that kind of manager who tries to win in that way,” he added.
This comes amid sustained criticism of Arsenal from a section of the football community over Arteta’s men’s reliance set peices.
The Gunners have proven to be leathal from deadball situations, scoring a whooping 19 goals from corners, free-kicks and throw-ins.
Arsenal Extend Lead at Premier League Summit
The result proved crucial for Arsenal, who extended their advantage at the top of the Premier League table to seven points with the victory.
While the Gunners walked away with the result, Brighton’s manager appeared frustrated by what he viewed as a pragmatic tactical setup from the visitors.
Hurzeler maintained that his side stayed true to their philosophy despite the loss, emphasizing his commitment to a more attacking and entertaining brand of football.
Growing Tension in the Title Race
The comments add another layer of tension to the Premier League title race as Arsenal continue their push for the championship, currently leading Manchester City in second with 7 points following their 2-2 draw wioth Nottingham Forest but the Cytizens have a game in hand.
Although Brighton were unable to find an equalizer, their manager’s remarks highlight a broader debate within modern football, whether winning pragmatically should take precedence over entertaining play.
For Arsenal, however, the result keeps their momentum strong as they maintain a firm grip on top spot in the league standings.
