The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition has announced a sweeping leadership reshuffle that has seen several prominent political figures removed from key party organs following a high-level meeting of the coalition leadership.
In a press statement issued after a joint sitting of the Coalition Council and the National Coalition Executive Council, the coalition revealed that a number of leaders had ceased to be members of the party’s governing structures.
According to the statement, the decision was reached after determining that the affected leaders had either accepted appointments to public office or joined rival political coalitions.
Leaders Removed from Azimio Coalition Council
Among those removed from the Azimio Coalition Council are Ali Hassan Joho, Sabina Chege, Abdi Noor Omar Farah, and Junet Mohamed.
The coalition leadership stated that their removal reflects the party’s commitment to maintaining loyalty within its leadership structures as political alignments shift across the country.
The reshuffle also affected members of the Azimio National Coalition Executive Council. Those listed as having ceased to serve in the council include Wycliffe Oparanya, Adan Keynan, David Pkosing, Mishi Mboko, Abdul Haji, Junet Mohamed, James Opiyo Wandayi, Isabella Wangechi Githinji, Caroline Wanjiru Karugu, and Salomon Kuria.
The coalition indicated that replacements for the affected positions will be announced soon as part of an expanded leadership structure aimed at strengthening the party’s political strategy.
Junet Mohamed Removed as Parliamentary Leader
In one of the most notable decisions from the meeting, the coalition resolved to terminate the appointment of Junet Mohamed as the leader of the Azimio Coalition Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly of Kenya.
The coalition appointed Caroli Omondi as the new leader of the Azimio Coalition Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly with immediate effect.
The announcement was made by Wiper party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka.
Musyoka stated that the reshuffle forms part of efforts to reorganize the coalition’s leadership following recent political developments in the country.
He added that the coalition will soon unveil new leaders who will take up the vacant positions in both the Coalition Council and the National Coalition Executive Council.
The changes signal a significant restructuring within the opposition coalition as it seeks to consolidate its leadership and redefine its political direction ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
