ANC Distances Itself from Musalia Mudavadi Amid Political Confusion

Amani National Congress distances itself from Musalia Mudavadi, condemns police actions against Edwin Sifuna and James Orengo at Ufungamano House, citing constitutional violations.

The Amani National Congress (ANC) has issued a firm clarification regarding the status of its founding leader Musalia Mudavadi, stating that he and his team formally exited the party and joined other political formations.

The party emphasized that Mudavadi no longer speaks on behalf of ANC, seeking to clear confusion that arose following recent political developments.

ANC disclosed that it has formally invited Mudavadi and his allies to reconsider their positions and rejoin the party but affirmed it would respect their decision should they decline.

The statement reinforced the party’s position that political organizations are owned by their members rather than individuals, underscoring its commitment to institutional continuity beyond leadership changes.

ANC Condemns Police Actions at Ufungamano House

In the same statement, ANC strongly criticized police conduct during a political gathering held at Ufungamano House, where leaders allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) had convened.

Among those affected were Edwin Sifuna and James Orengo, who, alongside other leaders, reportedly faced obstruction from law enforcement officers attempting to block access to the venue.

ANC termed the use of force as excessive and unjustifiable, arguing that the disruption of a lawful political meeting amounted to an abuse of state authority.

The party maintained that preventing elected leaders and citizens from accessing a lawful gathering undermines democratic freedoms and erodes public trust in institutions tasked with upholding the law.

ANC further raised alarm over what it described as a troubling trend of using state apparatus to interfere in political party affairs. The party cautioned that deploying police to disrupt opposition activities signals a drift toward authoritarian governance.

The party concluded by urging national leadership to refrain from actions that could weaken political institutions for short-term political advantage.
