Western Kenya Police Deny Knowledge of Edwin Sifuna’s Alleged Kakamega Rally

Sifuna

The Western Regional Police Command has distanced itself from reports circulating on social media about an alleged rally in Kakamega reportedly linked to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Western Regional Police Commander Isaak Mohamud stated that his office has not received any formal communication regarding the purported event scheduled to take place in Amalemba.

“We are not aware of any Sifuna-led rally in Kakamega, tunaonea tu social media!” Mahoud said, emphasizing that police have not been officially notified about the gathering.

According to the commander, the only information available to security agencies has come from online platforms, which he described as unreliable.

Mohamud acknowledged that there have been allegations and counter-allegations among political leaders regarding the rally. However, he maintained that such disputes are purely political and unrelated to the role of the police.

“In social media, it’s not very reliable. What we’re getting is accusation and counter-accusation. Those accusations have nothing to do with the police,” he said.

He added that some of the leaders linked to the alleged event are from outside Kakamega County, further complicating the political narrative surrounding the planned rally.

Concerns Over Alleged Armed Individuals

The police commander also revealed intelligence reports alleging that individuals expected to attend the alleged rally could be armed.

“We have every kind of information. We even told people who are coming from as far as Nairobi, who are armed. Armed with rifles. That’s what we have been told,” Mohamud claimed.

He further stated that the alleged group had reportedly indicated they would not require police presence, which he said explains why no formal request for security assistance had been made.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the event, the Western Regional Police Command has assured residents that security will be provided wherever necessary.
