Guinness World Record holder Truphena Muthoni has distanced herself from an X (formerly Twitter) account that sparked heated online debate after declaring support for President William Ruto.
The account, bearing the handle @TruphenaMuthoni,HSC, posted on February 22:
“By the way, I will Vote for Ruto. Very unapologetically.”
The statement quickly went viral, drawing criticism and backlash from a section of Muthoni’s supporters who questioned her political stance.
However, speaking to Switch Media, Muthoni firmly denied any connection to the account.
“I have never been on X,” she stated, clarifying that she does not own or operate the profile in question.
Following the clarification she further revealed she has now created her own verified account to avoid further confusion.
Muthoni rose to national and international prominence in 2025 after successfully completing a 72-hour tree-hugging challenge, earning recognition as a Guinness World Record holder for the longest time hugging a tree.
Her environmental activism placed her in the public spotlight, eventually leading to a meeting with President Ruto.
Following her record-breaking feat, she was appointed as an ambassador for the government’s ambitious 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign, a flagship environmental conservation initiative.
Muthoni’s clarification comes amid her maintained focus on environmental advocacy, emphasizing that she remains committed to conservation efforts.
