Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has alleged that his brother-in-law, Geoffrey Ajiki, had been abducted after being arrested by individuals he claims were officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
According to Owino, Ajiki called him shortly after the alleged arrest, informing him that six DCI officers had picked him up and were taking him to the Nairobi Area Police Headquarters.
However, the legislator says efforts to trace him at the police facility have so far been unsuccessful.
“I am here at the moment, we have not found him. Right now his phone is off,” Owino stated.
Allegations of Intimidation
The MP further claimed that Ajiki had confided in him about alleged intimidation by Principal Secretary for Ministry of Interior and National Administration Raymond Omolo prior to his arrest.
Owino alleged that Ajiki had been threatened and warned that his businesses would be shut down, accusing the PS of orchestrating the arrest under the guise of a police operation.
“If there’s any charge against my brother-in-law, present him before a competent court of law tomorrow. We will be there,” Owino said, insisting that due process must be followed.
Kakamega Rally Tensions
The alleged incident comes ahead of a planned political rally in Kakamega by a faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party , which Owino maintains will proceed as scheduled.
“The rally that is being organised in Kakamega, we will be there, and you cannot stop this rally. This rally is bigger than you,” he declared.
Owino further alleged that individuals were being mobilised from Kisumu to Kakamega to allegedly cause violence during the event. He claimed that similar acts of vandalism had previously targeted infrastructure linked to him in Kitengela.
The Embakasi East MP claims his brother in-law was however released and dropped in Machakos, providing no further details..
As of the time of publication, there has been no official statement from the Interior Ministry, the DCI, or PS Raymond Omolo regarding the allegations.
