United States President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Republican lawmakers and supporters, cautioning that failure to win upcoming midterm elections would almost certainly lead to his impeachment should Democrats retain or regain control of Congress.
Speaking during a recent address, Trump argued that Democrats are prepared to pursue impeachment regardless of justification, urging Republicans to approach the midterms as a high-stakes political battle.
“You gotta win the midterms because if we don’t win the midterms, it’s just going to be — I mean, they’ll find a reason to impeach. I’ll get impeached,” Trump said.
‘They’re Mean and Smart,’ Trump Says of Democrats
Trump accused Democrats of being more aggressive and strategic in wielding political power, suggesting Republicans have been overly restrained when given similar opportunities.
“We don’t have to preach to them. You know why? Because they’re meaner than we are. We should have impeached Joe Biden for a hundred different things,” he claimed.
The former president went on to describe Democrats as both “mean and smart,” warning Republicans that political civility would not protect them from what he framed as partisan retaliation.
“They are mean and smart. You gotta win,” Trump emphasized.
Trump’s remarks appear aimed at energizing the Republican base ahead of the midterms, positioning the elections as a referendum not only on Democratic governance but also on his own political survival.
Having been impeached twice during his presidency in 2019 and 2021, Trump has frequently argued that impeachment has been weaponized for political purposes, a narrative he continues to advance as he maintains a dominant influence within the Republican Party.
As the midterm campaigns intensify, Trump’s warning underscores the central role he expects to play in shaping Republican strategy and the confrontational tone likely to define the political contest ahead.
