President William Ruto has issued urgent instructions following the collapse of a multi-storey building in Nairobi’s South C estate.
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku confirmed that four people are feared trapped under the rubble, including two watchmen inside the building and two pedestrians in a nearby taxi.
“The President’s instructions are clear: first, ensure the safety and rescue of those trapped; second, investigate thoroughly and hold responsible parties accountable,” Ruku said.

Multi-agency teams—including emergency responders, medical personnel, and security officers—are working round the clock to reach those trapped in unstable debris. Relatives of the watchmen are closely monitoring the rescue efforts.

Preliminary reports indicate that the building, approved for 12 floors, had reached the 14th floor at the time of collapse, potentially contributing to the disaster. Nairobi City County had issued a stop order in August 2025, which appears to have been ignored.
Authorities have identified the building owner, contractor, supervising engineers, and the architect as key figures in the investigation. Legal accountability will follow once the emergency rescue phase concludes.
President Ruto emphasized that rescue operations must continue without delay, highlighting the urgency of saving lives while ensuring justice is served.
