President William Ruto has congratulated Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni following his re-election, reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and advancing shared regional priorities.
In a formal congratulatory message dated January 18, 2026, President Ruto said Museveni’s victory in the January 17 General Election reflected the trust Ugandans have in his leadership and the confidence placed in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
“Your decisive victory reflects the trust that the people of the Republic of Uganda have in your personal leadership and the confidence enjoyed by the NRM party,” Ruto said, adding that the re-election would reinvigorate Museveni’s resolve to accelerate Uganda’s national transformation.
The Kenyan president also commended Ugandans and electoral stakeholders for conducting what he described as a peaceful and competitive election, saying it demonstrated the country’s growing democratic maturity.
“For undertaking a peaceful election, I sincerely commend the people of Uganda and all stakeholders in the electoral process,” Ruto said.
He подчеркed the deep historical and fraternal ties between Kenya and Uganda, noting that the relationship would continue to benefit from Museveni’s leadership. Ruto reaffirmed Kenya’s readiness to work closely with Kampala to advance shared socio-economic priorities for the mutual benefit of citizens of both countries, the wider East African region and the African continent.
“Our two countries enjoy deep fraternal bonds which will no doubt benefit from your unwavering commitment,” the statement read.
